Mancala is believed to be one of the oldest games in the world. Some examples of stone mancala ‘boards’ have been dated to before 1400 BC but it is difficult to be precise, as the game was and still is, played using pebbles with hollows made in the earth.
Variations of Mancala are played all over Africa and in parts of Asia. Aftrican versions including interesting names such as Bao, Awari, Awele, Oware and Wouri; the best known being Wari and Ayo. The boards have varying layouts and numbers of hollows, but the game is essentially the same. The Rules are very simple and are included in this set.
