Persona is a unique method of contraception that works in harmony with your body.

On most days of the month you don't need to use a contraceptive. By monitoring changes in your personal hormone levels Persona can help tell you when those days are. Persona is made up of a simple, disposable urine Test Sticks and a small hand held Monitor. The monitor reads the test sticks, learns about your monthly cycle and gives you contraceptive advice each day. You only need to test 8 days each cycle - except for the first cycle, when you are required to test 16 times.

Persona is simple to use. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions which come with the product. Simply open the monitor first thing each morning to see which of the coloured lights is shining:

GREEN - means means you have the freedom to enjoy making love without using a contraceptive

RED - means you are taking significant risk of becoming pregnant so you should avoid making love. Once Persona has learnt about your cycle it will typically identify 6-12 'red' days each cycle. The reliability of Persona is dependent on abstinence on 'red' days. The risk of pregnancy is considerably greater if you have sex on a 'red' day even if you use a barrier method of contraception (eg. a condom).

YELLOW - means that Persona needs more information and that you need to do a urine test to find out if it's a 'green' or a 'red' day.

IMPORTANT: Persona must be used according to the instructions enclosed with the product. Persona offers NO protection against sexually transmitted diseases or HIV (the virus which causes AIDS). The manufacturer states that independent trials have shown Persona to be 94% reliable, when used according to the instructions and as the only method of contraception. This means that, if 100 women use Persona for one year, 6 are expected to become pregnant as a result of having sex on 'green' days.

Persona is only suitable for women whose normal monthly cycle lasts between 23 and 35 days. You should NOT use Persona if breast feeding, you have recently been pregnant, have experienced menopausal symptoms, are using hormonal treatments, are taking any other treatment which may alter your normal cycle, are taking some antibiotics, if you have impaired liver or kidney function, or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

You should NOT use Persona if becoming pregnant is totally unacceptable.
